Best Motorola Smartphones To Buy In Kenya In 2024

Motorola had been an indisputable player in the mobile phone market for years. The company was also the first to market a mobile phone (some would say transportable) in 1973! Originally American and independent, the group's telephony branch has dramatically changed recently. It entered the fold of Google in 2011 and then was sold to Lenovo in 2014.

Despite interesting experiments like Moto Mods, the brand has had a different success than Xiaomi's mid-range smartphones. However, Motorola has shown more ambition and is now expanding its Edge series, notably with the introduction of the first smartphone with a 200-megapixel sensor, the Edge 30 Ultra. Two other more classic models, the Edge Fusion and the Edge Neo are also arriving.

1. Motorola's Edge 30

Motorola's Edge 30 range includes several smartphone models in different price brackets. The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is revealed as a high-end smartphone but, above all, very balanced compared to other elements in the catalogue. The Edge 30 Fusion is a slim device with a premium design that makes it easier to grip.

Above all, the immense strength of the phone is housed in internal power. The configuration incorporates a Snapdragon 888+ processor that is well-controlled in terms of power. On the other hand, the smartphone heats up when 3D games are requested. In return, we regret that the Edge 30 Fusion is only entitled to two years of significant updates. Understand: you can only go to Android 14 on this model.

A 6.55-inch pOLED panel provides the screen part with a maximum refresh rate measured at 144 Hz. The panel is even HDR10+ certified. During our tests, we measured a brightness capable of climbing to 1100 cd / m² and excellent colourimetry. The photo part is relatively simple to use, even if the results are not all equal. It just lacks a telephoto lens.

KEY SPECS

  • display6.50-inch (1080x2400)
  • ProcessorQualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus
  • Front Camera32MP
  • Rear Camera50MP + 50MP + 2MP
  • RAM6GB, 8GB
  • Storage128GB, 256GB
  • Battery Capacity4020mAh
  • OSAndroid 12

2. Motorola Edge 30 Pro

the Edge 30 Pro is a new attempt by the brand in the high-end smartphone segment after a lacklustre Edge 20 Pro. Once again, Motorola is satisfied with an efficient smartphone but has little brilliance. So what are the strengths of this brand new Motorola Edge 30 Pro? Its beautiful 6.7-inch OLED screen in Full HD + enjoys excellent maximum brightness, as well as its performance, thanks to the processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is still just as efficient. The latter is supported by 12 GB of RAM. Note also the effectiveness of the fingerprint sensor. The design, if it remains very classic, is at least discreet. Using frosted glass on the back is clever to avoid fingerprints.

On the photo part, if the primary sensor is doing quite well, unfortunately, we cannot say the same for the ultra wide-angle, which is struggling. A very efficient 68W fast charge supports autonomy in the average of a day of use.

KEY SPECS

  • Display6.70-inch (1080x2400)
  • ProcessorQualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
  • Front Camera60MP
  • Rear Camera50MP + 50MP + 2MP
  • RAM8GB
  • Storage128GB
  • Battery Capacity4800mAh
  • OSAndroid 12

3. Motorola Edge 30 Ultra

The photography of the smartphone does not live up to the expectations raised. Despite the good raw performance, the software processing of the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra needs to be improved. The result could be better photography and an overall frustrating experience.

Not everything is to be thrown away on this smartphone. Quite the contrary. Indeed, at the heart of the latter is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which allows you to run any software and the most demanding mobile games. Add to that the software experience implemented on the Edge 30 Ultra, and you will have a pleasant phone to use in all circumstances.

That's just some of it, since the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra offers a great charging experience. The latter is sold with a 125W TurboPower unit which recovers 60% of the battery in 15 minutes of mains charging—a final word on the pOLED screen with a definition in Full HD and 144 Hz. The panel offers good performance, despite colourimetry at half-mast.

KEY SPECS

  • Display6.67-inch (1080x2400)
  • ProcessorQualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
  • Front Camera60MP
  • Rear Camera200MP + 50MP + 12MP
  • RAM12GB
  • Storage256GB
  • Battery Capacity4610mAh
  • OSAndroid 12

4. Motorola Edge 30 Neo

The great strength of the phone is housed in its touch screen. In this case, the Motorola Edge 30 Neo has a pOLED panel of 6.28 inches and a refresh at 120 Hz above all. Out of the box, you can see that the panel is well-calibrated and pleasant to use—the naked eye. For everyday use, the phone integrates within it a Snapdragon 695 5G processor accompanied by 8 GB of RAM. You are entitled to 128 GB of storage—a sufficient configuration to run most software. With the almost pure Android experience, you have an optimal daily experience. On the other hand, this equipment lacks a safe for more demanding mobile games.

The photographic experience offered is coherent, especially when the conditions are met. The Motorola Edge 30 Neo opts for a simple dual-camera lens. It will not be very versatile, but sufficient for everyday use. Another regret: autonomy is not at the level of what we can hope for. He can hold a simple day without more.

KEY SPECS

  • Display 6.50-inch.
  • Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus.
  • Front Camera 32-megapixel.
  • Rear Camera 50-megapixel + 50-megapixel + 2-megapixel.
  • RAM 6GB, 8 GB.
  • Storage 128GB, 256 GB.
  • Battery Capacity 4020mAh.
  • OS Android 12.

5. Motorola G100

First observation: we are in the presence of a beautiful baby, with 9.69 mm thick and 207 grams on the scale. A weight that surprises all the more since the back is made of plastic, a material lighter than the glass traditionally used by the competition.

The LCD screen is a disappointment, its brightness is average, and the adjustment of its colourimetry needs to be noticed. We are entitled to a refresh rate of 90 Hz, but this is no longer impressive in 2023. The Snapdragon 870, on the other hand, is much more convincing. This version of the Snapdragon 865 ensures flawless fluidity in the system and does very well in games.

Battery life is solid, with around two days of use on one charge. On the other hand, fast charging is very far from experts in the field since it takes almost two hours to fill the 5000 mAh battery. As for the photo, the record could be better, with a passable main sensor and anecdotal secondary sensors.

KEY SPECS

  • Display 6.70-inch (1080x2520)
  • Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 870.
  • Front Camera 16MP + 8MP.
  • Rear Camera 64MP + 16MP + 2MP + ToF.
  • RAM 8GB.
  • Storage 128GB.
  • Battery Capacity 5000mAh.
  • OS Android 11.

FAQS About Motorola Smartphones

What is the difference between Motorola's G, E, and Z series?

Motorola has different smartphone series for different budgets and requirements. The G series is the most popular and caters to the mid-range segment. The E series is an entry-level series that offers basic features at an affordable price. The Z series is a premium series that offers high-end features like 5G connectivity and advanced camera capabilities. The Z series also offers support for Moto Mods, which are modular accessories that can be attached to the phone to enhance its features.

How long does a Motorola smartphone battery last?

The battery life of a Motorola smartphone depends on several factors, like the model, usage, and battery capacity. Motorola smartphones typically have a battery capacity of 3000mAh to 5000mAh. A Motorola smartphone battery can last for a day or more with moderate usage. However, heavy usages like gaming and video streaming can drain the battery quickly. To extend the battery life of your Motorola smartphone, you can reduce the screen brightness, turn off unused apps and features, and use battery-saving modes.

Do Motorola smartphones support 5G connectivity?

Yes, Motorola has several smartphones that support 5G connectivity, including the Moto G 5G Plus, Moto G Stylus 5G, and Moto G Power 5G. With 5G connectivity, you can enjoy faster internet speeds and low latency for a seamless experience. However, the availability of 5G connectivity depends on your location and network coverage.

Can I expand the storage of my Motorola smartphone?

Most Motorola smartphones have a built-in storage capacity of 32GB to 128 GB. However, you can expand the storage capacity by using a microSD card. Motorola smartphones usually support up to 512GB of external storage. A microSD card can help you store more photos, videos, and apps on your device.

Are Motorola smartphones waterproof?

Most Motorola smartphones are water-resistant and can withstand splashes and light rain. However, not all Motorola smartphones are waterproof and may not survive submersion in water. The level of water resistance varies with different models, and you should check the IP rating of your device to know its level of protection.

Can I use my Motorola smartphone with any carrier?

Motorola smartphones are usually sold unlocked, which means you can use them with any carrier that supports the device's network bands. However, some carrier-branded Motorola smartphones may need more compatibility with other carriers. Before purchasing a Motorola smartphone, you should check the device's network bands and ensure they are compatible with your carrier.

How often does Motorola release software updates?

Motorola releases software updates regularly to improve performance, and the frequency of software updates depends on the model and age of the device. Generally, newer devices receive more frequent updates than older ones. Motorola usually releases security updates once a quarter, while major Android OS updates are released annually. It's essential to keep your device up to date to ensure that it is secure and functioning optimally.
