Thanks to their blend of luxury, seductive appearance, and enjoyable driving characteristics, these convertibles provide the best open-air driving experiences.

Convertibles, often the topless version of their coupe counterpart, are about maximum curb appeal and wind in your hair, driving enjoyment. These drop-top versions are the greatest since they surpass expectations in both categories.

Convertibles frequently weigh more than their fixed-roof brothers and occasionally have less rigid body constructions, but they are minor drawbacks compared to the appeal they otherwise offer. They also frequently have smaller rear seats and less trunk room.

1. Chevrolet Corvette 2017

The Corvette is a fantastic sports car—in some of its guises, a supercar—with a thundering 455 horsepower V-8 under the hood, so much grip that it seems to generate its gravitational pull, and a savage countenance. Even better, it is far cheaper than many of the vehicles with which it competes on performance. Our only criticism is the conspicuously low-quality inside materials; no passengers will mistake this for an Audi. They won't be able to complain once you pin the accelerator or swing through a turn quickly.

2. Ferrari 488 spider

Thus, besides having a sharp appearance, its successor serves a crucial commercial purpose. Ferrari asserts that the retractable hard top (RHT), a slim two-panel accessory weighing 25 kg less than a typical soft top and adding additional protection and rigidity, was efficiently built around the 488 Spider. It folds up in about 14 seconds and doesn't ruin the car's look by adding an awkward posterior.

The exterior design highlights include the GTB's identical fantastically exquisite blown spoiler for maximum downforce, a rear diffuser with adjustable flaps, and the front's center Aero Pillar. Although it's not the most beautiful Ferrari ever, it has drama. Or, its 3.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine generates 661 horsepower and 560 torques.

3. Porsche 718 Boxster

The Porsche 718 Boxster is a fantastic sports car with incredible handling, powerful turbocharged flat-four engines, and a classic appearance. We frequently include it on our 10 Best Cars of the Year list. Most models almost always ride gracefully enough to make the Boxster a pleasant daily traveler. Additionally, the Boxster is suitable for weekend excursions, provided you don't overpack. If you can slow down long enough to allow onlookers to gawk, it's undoubtedly a head-turner.

4. Mercedes Benz C Class 2018

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class continues to be the entry-level luxury car to which others aspire, whether you are pulled to it by its craftsmanship, exquisite style, technology, or coveted German emblem. Even more high-performance Mercedes-AMG versions are available for the C-Class, including the C350e plug-in hybrid vehicle (reviewed separately).

The C-Class is more expensive than its competitors due to its features and excellent reputation. The roomier Audi A5 Sportback or BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe may appeal to you if you desire a compact premium automobile that is both unique and useful.

5. Mini Cooper 2016

The subcompact car class comprises cars that are convenient to drive in crowded city areas, have excellent fuel economy, and are inexpensive. Fun, however, is not always easy to come by. The 2016 Mini Cooper Hardtop is made to change the course of that narrative. This BMW-built runabout provides a lot of value while being more expensive than most competitors because of its exhilarating driving experience and upscale appearance.

When selecting a Cooper, you must choose one of three different engines. The standard engine used to be quite weak-kneed, but the most recent turbocharged three-cylinder is surprisingly agile, economical with fuel, and a good option for most buyers. Mini now offers the boosted S and JCW, which use turbocharged four-cylinder engines with extra heart-pumping performance.

6. 2016 BMW 4 Series Convertible

You can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive for the 2016 BMW 4 Series ("drive"). An eight-speed automatic transmission is a default for both body types. A manual transmission is a free option for rear-drive coupes and the AWD 435i coupe. Both messages have an automatic stop-start feature that shuts off the engine when the vehicle stops, helping to conserve gasoline.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powering the 428i variant produces 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. In Edmunds testing, an automatic-equipped coupe reached 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, a quick time for a four-cylinder vehicle in this market. Depending on whether you choose the coupe or convertible model and which engine/transmission combination you go with, the EPA estimates for the 4 Series change slightly.

A rear-wheel-drive 428i coupe with an automatic transmission is rated at 27 mpg combined (23 city/35 highway), and the manual transmission reduces it to 26 mpg combined (22/34), matching the 428i coupe with an AWD rating of 26 mpg combined. With RWD, the 428i convertible should achieve 27 mpg combined (23/34), but AWD will only reach 25 mpg combined (21/33) on the highway. For the class, these usually are excellent numbers.

7. Mercedes Benz CLK Class

A wide range of two-door, four-seat coupes and convertibles with sporty performance, attractive styling, and opulent interiors are available in the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class for 2006. The CLK takes the Mercedes cachet to the front door of every location and is a delight to look at or sit in, thanks to its beautiful exterior and sophisticated interior.

The CLK is even more enjoyable on the open road because of its quick performance and exceptional high-speed stability. The ride is comfortable but firm. And the CLK is a delight for sporty driving because it handles back roads with assurance and level handling.

Drivers looking for more power can choose the CLK500's potent V8, while the most insane fanatic might choose the CLK55 AMG. For 2005, the CLK500 received an upgrade with a seven-speed automatic, while the CLK55 is hooked to an AMG-modified five-speed automatic with AMG Speed Shift control.

Most buyers, however, will be pleased with the CLK350, which features a new 268-horsepower V6 and a new seven-speed automatic transmission for 2006. The CLK is easy to live with. Its relatively small size makes it easy to park and maneuver in crowded areas, a description that fits nearly everywhere nowadays. At the same time, the back seats are roomy enough for two adults. This is no cramped sports car limited to two occupants.

8. Mercedes Benz SL Class 2017

Three models of this reborn S-class cabriolet are offered, mirroring those of the coupe: the S550, which has a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V-8 and 449 horsepower; the S63, which has a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 and 577 horsepower; and the S65, which has a twin-turbo V-12 with 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque.

The S550 cabriolet has standard rear-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive because it is anticipated to sell mainly in warm-weather regions. Like the coupe, the S63 cabriolet maintains all-wheel drive, primarily to help use the engine's powerful torque. Although the S65 and its fixed-roof brother appear to be rear-drive-only vehicles, they might benefit from the all-wheel drive for the same reason.

9 .2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Look no further than the 2017 Mazda MX-5 if you've ever desired to possess a nimble, agile, two-seat roadster with the spirit of a vintage British roadster that is modern, safe, and dependable.

Despite all of the desirable qualities of the MX-5, spaciousness, and screaming power are not among them. While the Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 compact-sports coupes have athletic rates and a fraction of rear-seat room, larger competitors like the Mustang or Camaro have both.

The new Mazda MX-5 has a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine producing 155 horsepower. It has a smooth 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, so learning to drive a stick is worthwhile even if you have no experience. The clutch operation is flawless, the shifts are swift, and the action is light.

Only the 6-speed automatic transmission from the previous generation is still included if you must. We still believe purchasing the manual is worthwhile even though there is a manual-shift mode because it adds significant weight. You'll fill it up with a premium unleaded either way, but with up to 35 mpg on the interstate, you won't need to do it frequently.

10. Abarth 124 spider

A few two-seat roadsters are available today, but we believe the Abarth 124 Spider is among the best. The Abarth is one of three cars with more in common than just a two-seat, rear-wheel drive, soft-top design. This is so because the Mazda MX-5 and the Fiat 124 Spider, on which the Abarth and Fiat 124 Spider are based, share many of the same running gear.

While Fiat utilizes its engine under the hood, specifically its 1.4 MultiAir turbo petrol, Abarth vehicles have a more angular appearance. The Abarth's motor now has 168 horsepower, confirming what many motoring fans already knew: the MX-5's chassis could handle the increased power.
