President William Ruto revealed that renowned foreign digital corporations are keen on hiring close to 300,000 Kenyan professionals for their expanding digital industries. This development underscores Kenya's rise as a vital player in the global digital landscape.

During a church service at Deliverance Church International in Nairobi's Langata area, President Ruto spoke about the government's rigorous negotiations with several digital giants, including but not limited to Google, Intel, and Apple. "During my recent visit to the United States, these global leaders expressed an active interest in recruiting young Kenyan talent for their digital sectors," remarked Ruto.

This revelation closely follows President Ruto's swearing-in ceremony for the new Director of Public Prosecution, Renson Mulele Ingonga, at State House, Nairobi, on September 25, 2023. An image captured at the event showed a resolute Ruto, perhaps hinting at his government's broader commitment to digital advancements and youth employment.

Further stressing the government's commitment to these opportunities, President Ruto outlined the ambitious plans for nationwide digital infrastructure improvement. "Our government is in the advanced stages of establishing Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) hubs in every ward. These will not just be symbolic structures but will be equipped with computers and other essential facilities," he explained. The overarching goal? "To enable 300,000 to 500,000 youths to tap into digital job opportunities locally and internationally."

This initiative aligns with the 'Kenya Kwanza manifesto, which places youth employment and digital upskilling at its core. President Ruto expressed the government's vision: "When you hear us discuss digital superhighways, ICT hubs, and hot spots, it's a testament to our dedication to harness the power of the internet to create transformative digital employment for our youth."

Continuing this trajectory, the president shared insights from a recent government move. "Just last Friday, our government rolled out a distribution of 22,000 computers to every Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution." This was further bolstered by his and ICT CS Eliud Owalo's inspection visits to some of these institutions, emphasizing the inauguration of several digital superhighway projects.

One of the unique features of this comprehensive digital plan involves the synergy between the central government and local constituencies. President Ruto has urged Members of Parliament to actively participate by utilizing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to construct these hubs. "While MPs are tasked with the foundational structures, the government promises to furnish these hubs with state-of-the-art equipment," Ruto added. The broader vision sees these hubs as training centres and as accelerators for e-commerce and streamlined government services.

Furthermore, as an initial step to bolster digital accessibility, the Ministry of ICT has initiated a campaign to provide free Wi-Fi hotspots across critical areas, ensuring digital inclusivity.
