SteelSeries Rival 5 Created to Meet the Needs of Many Types of Gamers at Once

Gaming peripheral manufacturers generally diversify their mouse according to their intended target market. There are mouse targeted for FPS gamers, some for MOBA players, and some for MMORPG fans, who generally need more buttons than usual. But every now and then, there are also mice created to meet the needs of many types of gamers at once.

One recent example is SteelSeries Rival 5. Claimed to be the most versatile mouse, the Rival 5 comes with 9 programmable buttons, the amount that SteelSeries thinks is most ideal for providing a balance between performance and comfort.

The shape reminds me of the SteelSeries Rival 600, but with a more symmetrical design and a lighter weight at 85 grams. Rival 5 cannot be categorized as ambidextrous, as all the extra buttons are positioned on the left side, so it will be more suitable to be held using the right hand.

In total, the extra buttons on the left are five. So in addition to the two forward and back buttons as usual, the Rival 5 also packs one elongated button that can be pressed up or down — double function as two buttons at once — plus a gray button positioned at the front end.

All of them can certainly be programmed as needed, as well as the two main buttons, the DPI button, and the clickable scroll wheel. This combination according to SteelSeries can meet the needs of users for different game genres, ranging from FPS (CS:GO), battle royale (Fortnite), MOBA (League of Legends), to MMO (World of Warcraft).

In terms of performance, users will get a similar experience like Aerox 3 Wireless, because the sensor is used exactly the same, namely truemove air optical sensor that offers a maximum sensitivity of 18,000 DPI and tracking speed of 400 IPS. Also identical is its second switch main button, which is claimed to hold up to 80 million clicks, plus waterproof and dust resistant with IP54 certification.

Everything wouldn't be complete without RGB lighting that has 10 customizable zones. In the United States, SteelSeries Rival 5 is currently on sale for $60.
