Tizen OS and Wear OS come together to make Smartphones Greater Again
The team of analysts at Counterpoint Research has once again looked at the sales figures of smartwatches and similar wearables in relation to the first quarter of this year.
Among other things, Apple achieved growth of 50% and thus conquered a good third of the global smartwatch market. Counterpoint also notes that the merger of Wear OS, Tizen OS and Fitbit OS will be an important step towards a consolidated market that has been very fragmented so far.
Worldwide, around 35% more devices were delivered in the first quarter of 2021 than in 2020. As mentioned at the top, Apple remains here, which has been ensured above all by the Series 6 of the Apple Watch. But Samsung was also able to record a good increase, delivering 27% more devices than in the previous year. Counterpoint mentions above all the Galaxy Watch 3 and the series of the Galaxy Watch Active as drivers for this. Huawei, on the other hand, had to accept the loss of further market shares. That looked much better a year earlier.
According to the analysts, the merger of Google's and Samsung's wearable efforts announced at the last Google I/O could have a very positive impact on the spread of the new Wear platform, according to which it will meet a large Android user base, similar to how the Apple Watch finds its fans mainly among iOS users. Nevertheless, the Google OS will still have to increase comfort and functions to be competitive here.
