Xiaomi Reveals FlipBuds Pro, Its First TWS Equipped with Active Noise Cancellation
The TWS market continues to grow in 2021. Apple still controls most of the market share, but the gap is not as far away as it was in previous years. Lurking behind it is Xiaomi, which until yesterday, apparently had no TWS with active noise cancellation (ANC) at all.
That all changed with the announcement of Xiaomi FlipBuds Pro. This is Xiaomi's most premium TWS by far, and its flagship feature is the ANC which can muffle noises around up to 40 dB, roughly as quiet as in the library when Xiaomi itself says.
To make this happen, Xiaomi equips FlipBuds Pro with three microphones in each unit: one to capture and isolate nearby sounds, one to capture the user's voice, and another to ensure the user's voice is not silenced accidentally. For the output, each unit relies on a dynamic driver 11 mm in diameter.
To further maximize its performance, Xiaomi also equipped FlipBuds Pro with Qualcomm's premium-grade Bluetooth chip, QCC5151. Technically, this chip supports Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and technologies such as Google Fast Pair, Qualcomm TrueWireless Mirroring, Qualcomm Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation, and aptX Adaptive codec.
When used with Xiaomi phones such as Mi Mix Fold, Mi 11 Series, Mi 10 Series, Redmi K40 Series, Redmi K30 Series, or Redmi Note 9 Pro, the device can also operate in very low latency. In other words, TWS is also suitable for use in gaming sessions.
Looking at the design, it's undeniable that this TWS looks like a black version of the AirPods Pro. The battery is alleged to last up to 7 hours of use (5 hours if the ANC is continuously turned on) or a total of 28 hours if combined with the charging case. Besides via USB-C cable, the patient can also be recharged using Qi wireless charger.
In China, Xiaomi sold this TWS for 799 yuan or approximately 13,314.18 Kenyan Shilling. Unfortunately, so far, there is no information regarding when Xiaomi will take it to other countries.
